Buzz Aldrin Biography by Maddie


Buzz Aldrin was born on the 20th January 1930 in Montclair, New Jersey. Buzz was actually born with the name Edwin Eugene Aldrin Jr because he was named after his Dad. His Mum was the daughter of an army Chaplin. His Dad was a conel U.S Air Force which encouraged his interest in flight. He earned the nick name Buzz when his little sister mispronounced brother instead she said buzzer, so the family nick named him Buzz. He legally changed his name to Buzz in 1988.


Buzz graduated at Montclair High School with 3rd class engineering. Buzz then headed to West Point Military Academy. He received a doctorate MIT, assigned to Gemini Office.


He was a fighter pilot, who will have dropped bombs out of planes and he blew up a whole city! Then he started to work for NASA which stands for national astronauts and space administration.


When Buzz was traveling to the moon he was accompanied by Neil Armstrong and Michel Collins before they cud go to the moon they had to do moths training to be an astronaut! When they got there Buzz and Neil actually stepped foot on the moon and then a fight started and it was about who was going to put the flag in the moon unfortunately Neil won.

Life after being an astronaut

Dr Aldrin is President of Starcraft Enterprise, Laguna Beach, California. In 1971, Aldrin returned to the Air Force and retired a year later. Aldrin has receded numerous decorations and awards, including the Presidential Medal for freedom in 1969.

Buzz Aldrin was born on the 20th January 1930 Montclair New Jersey, to his mother and father Marion Moon and Edwin Eugene Aldrin. His mother was a daughter of a army chaplain and his father was a colonel in the US Air Force. At birth his name was Edwin Eugene Aldrin Jr. He got the name Buzz from his little sister because she couldn’t pronounce brother and said buzzer so his parents shortened it to Buzz. He  became interested in flight at an early age because his father encouraged him.


In 1947 Buzz graduated from Montclair high school. In 1951 he received a banchelor of science.  He went on to receive a doctorate MIT in the Gemini Target Office of the Air Force Division, Los Angeles.


Aldrin was in the third group of austronauts  named to National Austronaut and Space Administration in 1963. The spacecraft and the lunar explorers  landed on earth in 1969, buzz was chosen for the Apollo 11 crew that  landed on the moon 20 july 1969.

Life After Being An Astronaut

In 1971 Buzz returned to the Air Force and left a year later because he needed to retire. Buzz wrote a book about his trip to outer space because he wanted to let people know how he felt.
